Carers Support

This service for adult, concerned families and friends from 18 upwards. There is a seperate service for Young Carers.

If you are looking after a relative, friend or neighbour and you feel in need of support, information and advice or just a listening ear, this service is for YOU.

Who can access this service?

Anyone, including carers, concerned relatives, friends and neighbours, GP’s, Health and Social Care workers and the voluntary sector can refer a carer to the service.

How can a referral be made?

A referral can be made to the main office by telephone on 01872 243531 to the local Carers’ Support Co-ordinator or by posting, faxing or emailing the referral form on the website. If you are referring a carer their permission should be sought and “Yes” indicated on the form.

Isn’t this just one more worker coming up my garden path?

Yes! But the Carers’ Support Co-ordinator is there to support YOU as a Carer. You may often feel that your needs are overlooked or that no-one has time to listen to you. Our role is to ensure that you get the help, support and information and advice that you need and deserve.

Is this service confidential?

Yes. We may ask your permission to give feedback to GP’s, health or social care professionals involved in the care of the person you care for and/or yourself. This will help them have a better understanding of your situation.

The Government are also keen that GP practices keep a record of those who have a caring role so that you can be offered a better and more sensitive service. We will always ask your permission to do this.

CRCC is signed up to the multi-agency policies of the Safeguarding Adults Board and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Safeguarding Children Board and in rare cases a breach of confidentiality may be necessary in the interest of all concerned.

What happens next?

The Carers’ Support Co-ordinator will contact the carer to arrange a suitable time and place to meet. This free service aims to provide information and help in accessing benefits and other financial support, services for the carer and cared for, relevant information related to the carer’s circumstances, local carers support groups, carers assessments and emotional support.
