
After facing extremely tough competition, the winning villages in this year’s Calor Cornwall Village of the Year competition were announced at a presentation ceremony held on 28 August 2009.
Villagers gathered at the offices of Cornwall Rural Community Council for an awards event where the results were announced and prizes presented. The village of Week St Mary is the overall winner in the competition gaining the prestigious title of Calor Cornwall Village of the Year for 2009. Hot on their heels were:
Runners up were Gorran Haven, Carrharrack and Kingsand/Cawsand
Martin Treman, representing competition sponsor Calor, together with representatives from Cornwall Community Foundation and the Tanner Trust, the local supporters of the competition, presented the winning village with a plaque and prize money of £250. Prizes of £150 and £100 were awarded to those in second and third place respectively.
The competition is run by Cornwall Rural Community Council. Competition organiser, Sharon Davey, commented: “Our congratulations go to all the villages in this year’s competition. We were very impressed by the standard of the villages and the judges had a very tough job selecting the winners who represent the best of Cornish community life”
